The Annual All Oakland Talent Show

The 8th Annual All Oakland Talent Show, entitled “A Change Gonna Come: From the Town Life to an Even Better Life” continued in the tradition of sharing the performative beauty of what the youth of “The Town” have to offer. On May 9 at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, about 100 youth from schools throughout Oakland took the stage through song, rap, dance, music, and theatre, to say once again, “What they know about us?” With Oakland already touting 34 homicides in the first 3 months of 2008, a change must happen.

All proceeds benefit the production of the 6th Annual Oakland Peace Camp, a summer arts and social justice program. But enough about that -- let the youth speak for themselves:

We told who we are...
Sometimes we believe it...
Cuz front page highlights
are usually lowlights
KTVU what do U know
What they really know about us?
What they know about the Town Life?
Our Good Life
is going to be better
IT'S GOT TO BE BETTER
cuz A Change Gonna Come
only if WE make it
A Change Gonna Come
