Bio

Michael graduated from Brandeis University in 1999 with a BA in comparative literature and returned to his hometown of Oakland, California as a Teach for America corps member that same year. He was a public school teacher for four years, teaching third grade at Oakland’s Jefferson Elementary and teaching fifth grade as a founding teacher at ASCEND, a new small autonomous school within the Oakland Unified School District. Michael is a fully credentialed teacher in the State of California. He co-founded Oakland Leaf with the support of a team of educators and has helped to design, develop, administrate, and implement the organization’s programs. Mike also served as Executive Director of Oakland Leaf from 2002-2006. He currently attends law school in New York and dreams about working with his friends again.
