Arzu Mistry is an educator, muralist, mixed media visual artist and
dancer. She lives and works between the United States of America and
India. She received her Bachelors in Fine Art at the California
College of the Arts and her Masters in Education at the Harvard
Graduate School of Education.
In her professional life, she is an arts education consultant and has
worked as an artist/educator with youth for over 11 years. She
coordinates and leads professional development workshops for artists,
classroom teachers, school districts and arts organizations. As a
facilitator and coach she enables and inspires the use of the visual
and performing arts in standards based curriculum.
Arzu is a founding member of Oakland Leaf, a non-profit community
based organization that focuses on youth development and creative
education. She collaboratively developed Oakland Peace Camp, a
non-violence and social justice summer program serving urban Oakland
youth for three weeks. Peace Camp combines elements of creative
education, urban agriculture and the arts in empowering youth with
positive expression.
Arzu is a recipient of numerous grants and awards for her work in
arts-education. She has been an artist research collaborator, research
assistant and fellow at Project Zero, at the Harvard Graduate School
of Education. Throughout all of her work, she maintains a high level
of dedication and enthusiasm to the Arts as a medium for pedagogy,
advocacy, transformation and intervention..
